Who was Titu Maiorescu

Titu Maiorescu is the name of a famous Romanian literary historian and critic, essayist, linguist, politician and professor who lived at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. Starting as a teacher at the National High School in Iasi, Titu Maiorescu had a fulminating career both as a pedagogue and as a politician. He studied in Vienna and Paris, graduate in philosophy and philology of Sorbonne University, as well as law. He was in turn a History and Philosophy professor, rector of the University of Iasi and of the University of Bucharest, minister of Public Training, minister of Internal Affairs, and prime minister of Romania.

Maiorescu was the founder and the leader of the literary society called Junimea (The Young Generation), which created great enthusiasm among the young of his times. Being regarded as a spiritual and intellectual guide to his students, Titu Maiorescu introduced the seminar technique in the Romanian academic life and encouraged the scholarship system.

By associating Titu Maiorescu's name with our university, we hope to enhance the institution's academic reputation, taking, at the same time the great responsibility to prove worthy of it.
