Academic calendar

Generally, the academic year in Romania runs from October 1st until June (the exact date varies from one university - or even one faculty - to another). It is always divided into two semesters of approximately 14 weeks each. After each semester, there is an examination period of about four weeks.

The first semester (or the Autumn semester) lasts from October 1st until mid-February, with the examination period starting after the Christmas holiday (beginning of January).

The second semester (or the Spring semester) starts at the beginning of March. It includes the Easter holiday and a four-week exam session in May-June. Some faculties organise practical activities with compulsory attendance, at the end of the second semester.

There is also a re-examination period, organised in September, for students who have not passed the exams during the academic year.

According to national standards, the number of class hours per week, for undergraduate and masters full-time studies, is 22 to 28, with a decreasing tendency.

Application deadlines for international students:
. Exchange students: 1 July, for the Autumn semester; 15 January for the Spring semester
. Self-applying students: 1 September
