Accommodation

UTM does not offer accommodation facilities to any of its students. However, the International Relations Department will help you find housing in private flats at reasonable prices. Depending on the area and the facilities, the rent for a single room, with kitchen and bathroom, varies between 150 and 250 US $ per month. We can also help you find a larger flat that you can choose to share with other international students.

Financing

Tuition Fees
One academic year comprises 9 months of study. Independent students pay the following amounts for each month of study:

  • 360 US $ for medical studies
  • 340 US $ for all the other studies
  • Citizens arriving from the EU countries, the European Economic Area, Switzerland as well as all Romanian ethnic citizens regardless of country of origin will pay the same taxes as any Romanian student.

    Funding
Titu Maiorescu University does not control any sources of student funding and cannot assist students financially. Please contact your home university, the educational authorities or funding organisations in your home country, in order to find out if you are eligible for other types of funding, e.g. Fulbright, LLP/ERASMUS, Cultural Agreements etc.

    Cost of Living
A minimum of 5000 US $ per academic year is necessary to cover basic expenses such as accommodation, meals, transport and pocket money. You should also take into consideration the necessary costs for visiting the country, especially if you come to Romania for the first time. A one-way train ticket usually costs between 10 and 30 US $. If you have an international student card, you will get discounts at museums and other tourist attractions.

To give you an idea of the living expenses for a student in Romania, we have put together a normal budget for one month:

  • Housing: 250 US $
  • Food: 150 US $ (based on doing your own cooking or eating in student canteens)
  • Books and Stationery: 50 US $
  • Local Transport: 12 US $
  • Other Expenses: 200 US $ (clothing, mobile phone, leisure activities, travelling etc)
  • Passports and Visas

Citizens arriving from the EU countries, the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), as well as from Canada, Croatia, Japan, Moldavia, South Korea, Switzerland, USA and Yugoslavia are exempt from visa requirements. As a student coming from one of these countries, you can enter the Romanian territory only with a simple customs stamp and you can reside here for up to 90 days. After this period, your residence permit is to be extended by the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, for periods that shall not exceed one year. Here is a list of all the countries whose citizens are exempt from visa requirements: http://www.mae.ro/poze_editare/Anexa1_aprilie2007_en.pdf

Citizens arriving from all the other countries are obliged to apply for study visas in due time, at a Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office from their native countries. More information is available at this link: http://www.mae.ro
