RESEARCH WITHIN THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL – DENTAL MEDICINE
Within the Doctoral School – field of Dental Medicine (DSDM), the Scientific Research Strategy is grounded in the specific nature of fundamental, clinical, and applied research in the field of dental medicine, taking into account the need to consolidate academic excellence, scientific impact, and the social relevance of research outcomes, as well as continuous alignment with the developments of modern technologies and therapies in the field of oral health.
Research-development-innovation activities within the DSDM are intended to contribute to:
- increasing the performance and visibility of the doctoral school in the field of dental medicine at regional, national, and international levels;
- generating resources through the attraction of grants, projects, and institutional partnerships in the field of oral health and dental technologies;
- strengthening the institution’s position in advanced dental medicine research and in the scientific substantiation of clinical dental practice.
In this regard, the DSDM aims to pursue the following:
- active participation in the development of an efficient system for managing research in dental medicine and disseminating scientific results;
- creating a transparent academic framework based on performance and excellence criteria, designed to stimulate the involvement of doctoral supervisors and doctoral students in fundamental and clinical research activities;
- capitalizing on the scientific and clinical expertise of academic staff and integrating their professional experience (specialist and senior dental practitioners, researchers, dental technology specialists, etc.) into research activities;
- providing scientific expertise to medical institutions, public authorities, and other relevant entities in order to address complex issues in oral health through applied research and innovation.
Strategic Objectives and Courses of Action
Supporting Advanced Research in Dental Medicine and Promoting Areas of Excellence
At the operational level, this objective is implemented through the following directions:
- establishing support teams for the preparation and publication of articles in specialized journals indexed in international databases, as well as for the development of research projects funded at national and international levels;
- identifying and developing new research directions in areas such as oral implantology, dental prosthetics, orthodontics, periodontology, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, restorative dentistry, dental biomaterials, and digital technologies in dental medicine;
- participation in prestigious national and international congresses and scientific conferences, publication in high-impact journals, and editing volumes with recognized publishing houses;
- periodic organization of the International Conference of the Doctoral School in the field of Dental Medicine, as well as workshops and round tables dedicated to therapeutic and technological innovations;
- developing partnerships with scientific journals, research centers, university clinics, and institutions in Romania and abroad in order to increase the visibility of scientific output;
- creating the necessary framework to enhance the prestige of institutional publications and facilitate their inclusion in relevant international databases.
Developing High-Quality Human Resources in Dental Medicine Research
To achieve this strategic objective, the following initiatives are promoted:
- integrating doctoral students into the faculty’s clinical and preclinical research teams and centers, as well as involving them in scientific projects;
- supporting academic mobility programs and documentation or research internships at universities, clinics, and specialized institutes in Romania and abroad;
- organizing summer schools, advanced courses, and workshops on clinical research methodology, the use of digital technologies (CAD/CAM, 3D imaging), biostatistics, and research ethics;
- involving distinguished specialists from the academic and professional environment (national and international) in courses, conferences, and the development of joint research projects.
Increasing the Volume of Funds Attracted for Research in Dental Medicine
The implementation of this objective is achieved through:
- supporting the preparation and submission of projects in national and international competitions in the field of oral health and medical technologies;
- encouraging interdisciplinary research through collaborations with fields such as general medicine, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical engineering, and materials science;
- developing partnerships with other universities, research institutes, dental clinics, and companies producing dental materials and equipment in order to implement relevant joint projects;
- concluding contracts for applied research and clinical studies in the field of biomaterials and dental technologies.
Developing an Efficient Research Management System in Dental Medicine
Achieving this objective involves the implementation of the following measures:
- establishing a team of academic staff and researchers involved in coordinating and monitoring research activities within the Doctoral School;
- developing clear procedures regarding the evaluation of scientific performance, compliance with ethical standards, and the reporting of research results;
