RESEARCH WITHIN THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL – MEDICINE
Within the Doctoral School – field of Medicine (DSM), the Scientific Research Strategy is grounded in the specific nature of fundamental, clinical, and translational medical research, taking into account the need to consolidate academic excellence, scientific impact, and the social relevance of research outcomes, as well as continuous alignment with the developments of modern medicine and international standards in the field of healthcare.
Research-development-innovation activities within the DSM are intended to contribute to:
- increasing the performance and visibility of the doctoral school in the field of medical sciences at regional, national, and international levels;
- generating resources through the attraction of grants, projects, and institutional partnerships in the biomedical and clinical fields;
- strengthening the institution’s position in advanced medical research and in the scientific substantiation of clinical practice and healthcare policies.
In this regard, the DSM aims to pursue the following:
- active participation in the development of an efficient system for managing medical research and disseminating scientific results;
- creating a transparent academic framework based on performance and excellence criteria, designed to stimulate the involvement of doctoral supervisors and doctoral students in fundamental, clinical, and applied research activities;
- capitalizing on the scientific and clinical expertise of academic staff and integrating their professional experience (specialist physicians, senior physicians, researchers, biologists, biochemists, etc.) into research activities;
- providing scientific expertise to healthcare institutions, public authorities, and other relevant entities in order to address complex medical issues through applied research and innovation.
Strategic Objectives and Courses of Action
Supporting Advanced Medical Research and Promoting Areas of Excellence
At the operational level, this objective is implemented through the following directions:
- establishing support teams for the preparation and publication of articles in medical journals indexed in international databases, as well as for the development of research projects funded at national and international levels;
- identifying and developing new research directions in areas such as personalized medicine, oncology, cardiology, neurology, infectious diseases, public health, medical genetics, regenerative medicine, and advanced medical technologies;
- participation in prestigious national and international congresses and scientific conferences, publication in high-impact journals, and editing volumes with recognized publishing houses;
- periodic organization of the International Conference of the Doctoral School in the field of Medicine, as well as workshops and round tables dedicated to current topics in biomedical research and medical practice;
- developing partnerships with scientific journals, research centers, and medical institutions in Romania and abroad in order to increase the visibility of scientific output;
- creating the necessary framework to enhance the prestige of institutional publications and facilitate their inclusion in relevant international databases.
Developing High-Quality Human Resources in Medical Research
To achieve this strategic objective, the following initiatives are promoted:
- integrating doctoral students into the faculty’s biomedical and clinical research teams and centers, as well as involving them in scientific projects;
- supporting academic mobility programs and documentation or research internships at universities, hospitals, and research institutes in Romania and abroad;
- organizing summer schools, advanced courses, methodological seminars, and workshops on clinical research methodology, biostatistics, research ethics, and scientific writing;
- involving distinguished specialists from the academic and medical environment (national and international) in courses, lectures, and the development of joint research projects.
Increasing the Volume of Funds Attracted for Medical Research
The implementation of this objective is achieved through:
- supporting the preparation and submission of projects in national and international competitions in the fields of healthcare and biomedical research;
- encouraging interdisciplinary research through collaborations with fields such as biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, medical informatics, biomedical engineering, and public health;
- developing partnerships with other universities, research institutes, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and entities in the field of medical technologies in order to implement relevant joint projects;
- concluding contracts for clinical research, observational studies, or innovation projects in the medical field.
Developing an Efficient Medical Research Management System
Achieving this objective involves the implementation of the following measures:
- establishing a team of academic staff and researchers involved in coordinating and monitoring research activities within the Doctoral School;
- developing clear procedures regarding the evaluation of scientific performance, compliance with ethical standards, and the reporting of research results;
- involving representatives of the Doctoral School in university structures dedicated to research and innovation;
- supporting the development of research centers and laboratories in specialized medical fields (internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, oncology, cardiology, etc.);
- optimizing the management of funds obtained through grants and research contracts in order to ensure the transparency, efficiency, and sustainability of scientific activities.
