On October 14, 2026, the Faculty of Informatics at Titu Maiorescu University (UTM) marked the launch of the WordPress Credits program at an event organized in partnership with the WordPress Foundation. The event brought together students, faculty members, and members of the WordPress community.
The special guest was Maciej Pilarski, Community Wrangler at Automattic and an educational programs coordinator at the WordPress Foundation. Also attending were Alex Spătaru, the University’s WordPress Credits program coordinator and co-organizer of the WordPress Bucharest Meetup, and Luminița Ciobanu, co-organizer of the same community.
Titu Maiorescu University was represented by Assoc. Prof. Iustin Priescu, PhD, President of the University Senate, and Assoc. Prof. Geanina Banu, PhD, Vice-Rector, who highlighted the importance of international educational partnerships and engaging students in projects that offer practical experience and global impact.
The event was opened and moderated by Assoc. Prof. Daniela Joița, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics. In her remarks, she emphasized the valuable opportunities the program offers students: gaining hands-on experience with technologies within the WordPress ecosystem, benefiting from mentorship, and contributing to projects with international visibility.
The Dean thanked Maciej Pilarski for his openness and support in developing this collaboration, as well as Alex Spătaru for his initiative and efforts in making the Faculty of Informatics’ participation in the program possible. She also expressed her appreciation for the values upheld by Automattic, as reflected in The Automattic Creed.
In his presentation, Maciej Pilarski spoke about the mission of the WordPress Foundation and the opportunities WordPress Credits offers students to contribute actively to one of the world’s most important open-source projects. He emphasized that the program is open to all Titu Maiorescu University students who wish to develop their skills and gain practical experience, regardless of their degree program.
Alex Spătaru then presented the program’s objectives at both University and Faculty level, explaining how the activities are organized, the stages of the practical training, the required number of hours, the certification process, and the steps involved in applying. He also highlighted the benefits of participation, including opportunities to contribute to open-source projects, access to mentorship, and a free one-year WordPress.com subscription.
A special moment of the event was the presentation of the Titu Maiorescu University Trophy to Maciej Pilarski by Assoc. Prof. Iustin Priescu, PhD, President of the University Senate. The distinction recognized his support for strengthening the collaboration between the WordPress Foundation and Titu Maiorescu University.
