THE Q-HELIX EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ALLIANCE

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER (THEMATIC) SCHOOL IN HEALTH 2026

“Future Professionals: Medicine, Artificial Intelligence and Society”
An Interdisciplinary Approach

Titu Maiorescu University (TMU), a member of the Q-Helix European University Alliance, is organising, on behalf of the Alliance, THE INTERNATIONAL SUMMER (THEMATIC) SCHOOL IN HEALTH 2026, “Future Professionals: Medicine, Artificial Intelligence and Society” – An Interdisciplinary Approach, from 24 to 28 August 2026. Held at TMU’s Calea Văcărești campus in Bucharest, in the Mediateca Amphitheatre, the International Summer School brings together Romanian students and students from Q-Helix partner universities for an interdisciplinary programme at the intersection of medicine, technology and law.

The first day lays the foundation for the interdisciplinary dialogue that will continue throughout the programme. The official opening will feature addresses by Prof. Iosif Urs, PhD, President of TMU, Prof. Daniel Cochior, MD, PhD, Rector of TMU, Assoc. Prof. Iustin Priescu, PhD, President of the TMU Senate, Ewelina Widerska, representative of WSB University and Coordinator of the Q-Helix European University Alliance, and other international guests. The programme continues with presentations of the participating universities, an initial assessment and an interdisciplinary panel on first aid, artificial intelligence and neurolaw. The discussions will be moderated by Assoc. Prof. Geanina Banu, PhD, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Coordinator of the Summer School.

The second day focuses on first aid. Participants will learn the essentials of resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use, followed by practical exercises and mannequin-based simulations. The programme also includes a session on psychological first aid in stressful and crisis situations. The day concludes with an online lecture by special guest Prof. Thais Russomano, MD, PhD, an internationally recognised researcher in aerospace medicine.

On Wednesday, 26 August, participants will visit two of Romania’s best-known tourist attractions: Bran Castle (associated with the legend of Dracula) and Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni (a filming location for the Netflix series Wednesday). The excursion complements the academic programme with a cultural experience and offers students from the partner universities an opportunity to interact and get to know one another better.

On Thursday, the programme explores artificial intelligence and its implications in the European context. Participants will examine the opportunities and limitations of AI, effective prompt design, the critical evaluation of AI-generated responses and the requirements of the EU AI Act. The sessions will also present solutions for anonymising medical data and applications of artificial intelligence already in use in medicine. The day concludes with a visit to the Palace of Parliament.

On the final day, participants will explore neurolaw, from the relationship between brain function and legal responsibility to free will, the use of neurobiological data and the protection of cognitive liberty. The lectures will be followed by a moderated debate based on a hypothetical case. The International Summer School concludes with the final assessment, reflections on the programme and a closing ceremony featuring the presentation of certificates and symbolic awards, as well as the announcement of the next edition.
