Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest earns 4-Star university status following QS Stars evaluation
The distinction follows the QS Stars international audit conducted by the British company QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which also produces one of the most widely recognized international university rankings.
The result is a first for Romania: Titu Maiorescu University (TMU) is the first private university to be audited by QS. At the same time, UTM ranks ahead of some public universities in the QS Stars rating.

The evaluation process ran for about six months and covered all 10 faculties, support services, and UTM’s management. It was coordinated by Associate Professor Geanina Banu, PhD, Vice-Rector for International Relations.

According to the evaluation report, TMU’s overall rating, QS ★★★★ (“Very Good”), corresponds to a university that has achieved international recognition for its high standards. The QS Stars international audit was a comprehensive analysis structured around nine categories: (1) Teaching (2) Facilities, (3) Academic Development, (4) Employability, (5) Programme Strength, (6) Good Governance, (7) Social Impact, (8) Global Engagement, and (9) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The Programme Strength category involved a separate evaluation of the General Medicine bachelor’s programme of the Faculty of Medicine, one of UTM’s 26 bachelor’s programs. This program also received 4 stars (QS ★★★★, “Very Good”).
TMU received the maximum rating of 5 stars in the categories of Academic Development, Employability, Good Governance, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
