Scientific Research


2008 marked a more visible and significant focus of the scientific research activity carried out by the teaching staff at the faculty and department level by frequent references to the benchmarks of the European higher education framework and area, on the requirements/standards associated to the fields of employment specific to the faculty graduates, in a competitive environment, centered on the long lasting revaluation of the research results, specific to the knowledge-based economy. The faculty research strategy was intended to be a modern, efficient and effective one, prepared both on the short term (annually) and on the medium (4 years) and long term (the period between 2008-2016).

For the issuing of the final draft of the Research Strategy 2008-2012 of the Faculty of Psychology the values and support benchmarks provided by the management of Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest have been complied with. The following fields/study areas are of special interest at the faculty level:

  • the academic value of Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest, the faculty mission, vision and Strategic Operating Plan;
  • the formal and informal directions of reform in education and instruction, as applied to the fields in which the faculty graduates are employed, as indicated in the National Development Strategies for the next period;
  • the priorities of the European areas of research in social and human sciences, as well as the main financing pillars;
  • the experience of the faculty teaching staff, allowing for the reconstruction of modern and effective pedagogy in higher education, based on the strategic and quality management and on the requirements of the future society built on knowledge and competitiveness;
  • the involvement of the entire teaching staff, and also of the students in the final years and of the master students in medium and long term research programmes, as well as in the future research networks (labs, mixed teams, excellence centers), with a significant impact on the academic performance and, at the same time, on the educational and social reality.
  • the professional research interests of the teaching staff members were correlated both with the development of their personal projects, specialty areas, as well as with updating the topics of newly introduced lectures or of those redesigned after the enforcement of the Bologna Statement;
  • the increasingly visible position of research and researchers on the international scene;
  • the creation of more relevant, more offensive and more persuasive premises in publicity terms for the positive remodeling of the faculty image and impact in the academic environment, in comparison with other similar Romanian institutions;
  • the progressive transfer, still not very efficient, of the research results from theory to practice, in particular in order to increase the actual institutional capacity (for instance, the organization and operation of excellence centers, resource centers etc) with focus on the operational area of the research activity, by means of interdisciplinary teams, with a view to creating a series of institutional research networks in the field, at the national and/or international level);
  • investments in the professional development of the young teaching staff members in order to refine their research potential (research traineeships, scholarships for master studies), to enlarge the cooperation offer on the research market, to develop the capacity of the human resources to absorb, to generate, to apply and to disseminate the results of the psychopedagogical research etc.  



The main evidence demonstrating the strategic shift of research is represented by a significant increase of the weight of programmes/projects developed at the national level, based on competition, which are extremely relevant for the long lasting revaluation of the research results and for the reform of the fields correlated with the faculty profile (education, quality of higher education, integrated education, equal opportunities, protection of child rights). Thus, in 2009, the teaching staff of the two departments plan to participate to the contests organized at the national level and as part of the European Union programmes, including in the Excellence Research Programme – CEEX.

A remarkable achievement of the Faculty of Psychology is the organization of the Scientific paper session with international participation in May 2008. The session had a strong impact on the Romanian psychologists as it enjoyed the participation of 300 people.

The large number of topics, as well as their diversity, reflects the interest of the participants in the latest concepts, theories and methodologies used in contemporary psychology. The organizers grouped the papers under three sections: 

1. Social psychology, organizational psychology and human resources  psychology;                                                                                   

2. Personality psychology, educational psychology and psychodiagnosis;                                                                                                          

3. Psychotherapies and psychoanalysis. 

The authors of the papers come from all levels of scientific life, from academicians and university professors to master students and bachelor studies. Thus, over 140 authors and 60 studies were selected.

Our objective was that this session should offer the psychologists working in all theoretical and applied fields, an opportunity to communicate and be aware of the latest trends in the field, both in Romania and in Europe. Our mission was that all studies presented in this session should be of real use.

The quality of the study programmes, the elite teaching staff, the prestigious scientific research activity, the publications, the national and international conferences are just a few of the elements that make up the identity of our faculty and recommend it as one of the top institutions in the field in Romania, with a good image in the European academic education area. The intellectual potential of this institution, both at the level of the teaching staff and of its students represents a guarantee that the Faculty of Psychology will continue to develop in the spirit of the European requirements on quality education and scientific research.
